Talk about coming across some very interesting ways that women can be involved in missions! Ever considered becoming a missionary nanny? Mission Nannys works to place mature Christian women who wish to apply their domestic skills to assist missionaries in their ministries, by helping as a nanny, responsible for daily needs which may include cooking, music, education, teaching, entertainment, shopping, and babysitting. This can be an ideal ministry for women, especially… Read More

I recently received the following article from Joel Vestal, President of ServLife. Joel is a 30-something global leader and served on our board at WorldconneX. Here is an article worth your time and reflection. I hope it leads to action. Are Americans Needed for God’s Global Mission? An Appeal for Global Justice Practitioners by Joel Vestal What the world needs now, perhaps more than ever, is individuals and communities intent on… Read More

It is difficult to express my feelings after reading the Letter from the Protestant Church of Smyrna which graphically describes the brutal murders of three Christians in Turkey a week ago. Forgiveness for the attackers is certainly not my initial reaction. Yet that’s exactly what the wife of one of the slain men expressed. Copy_of_Letter_from_Smyrna.doc In an act that hit front pages in the largest newspapers in Turkey, Susanne Tilman in… Read More

This is a prayer request for Joe Stocker. He is in a very out of the way place in Ethiopia and has a fever. Please pray that he can see a doctor and get a Malaria test and start treatment. Malaria can be really dangerous. I remember from all the Malaria we had years ago when we lived in Equatorial Guinea. Joe also says Anthony, the guy who trained with us… Read More

At a conference held from March 6-8 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, fifteen organizations including the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) met and formed ‘The Religious Liberty Partnership’ to find new ways of working together for the persecuted church. Chaired by Merwyn Thomas from Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), based in the U.K., the network will meet annually, while a working group of five members will lead various works during the year. The members… Read More

Mecca Zhao, a member of the Back to Jerusalem Band (BTJB) was called home to glory on the 7th of March, 2007. In 1946 Brother Zhao and his fellow worker, Timothy Dai, were sent out by the BTJB. Sharing the gospel as they went, the two traveled through Kansu to Qinghai. Later, six other Band members joined them. Mecca Zhao pressed on into Xinjiang in 1948, where he established a base… Read More

Let us imagine an American who is sent as a missionary to an African country. He will have to ask himself this question: How can I, who am the product of an Anglo-Saxon culture, take the gospel from the Bible, which was written in the cultures of Judaism and the Greco-Roman world, and communicate it to Africans who belong to a third culture, whether of Islam or of an African traditional… Read More

Last night my family viewed the movie, Amazing Grace, the story of William Wilberforce and his successful campaign to end the slave trade in Great Britain. Our family discussion following the movie was interesting. My daughter is majoring in Social Work at Baylor University and had just completed a report on the current conditions of slavery in the world. Most of us who live in relative security, especially in the West,… Read More

While getting ready for work this morning I caught an intriguing story on Good Morning America. Apparently a challenge is being made to spend a week without certain items: a debit card, a cell phone, makeup or coffee. Not all items at once, mind you. The last two combined would definitely put me over the edge. Just say “goodbye” to one item for an entire week. Today’s show featured a couple… Read More

Rodney Stark’s new book argues that Paul quickly developed a standard approach to his church planting mission. 1. He typically began to visit a community by holding privately organized meetings under the patronage of eminent persons. who provided him with an audience composed of their dependents. 2. Paul did not travel alone, but often took a retinue of as many as forty followers with him, sufficient to constitute an initial ‘congregation,’… Read More
