When does the Islamic month of Ramadan begin each year?

Trick question…
Ramadan does not adhere to the 365-day solar calendar, but follows a shorter lunar calendar. Therefore the date varies annually and occurs earlier each year. In 2007, the month of Ramadan will begin approximately on September 13th and conclude on October 12th. The date occasionally differs from country to country. Around the world, Muslims will look to the heavens trying to sight the crescent moon. Once seen, the month of fasting begins. Muslims will awake before dawn the next morning and eat breakfast, then refrain from eating or drinking until nightfall, a practice repeated over the next 29-30 days.
